Wild elephant destroys tourist's backpack at Thai national park
A hungry elephant trashed a tourist's backpack as it attacked recycling bins at a national park in Thailand.
The wild jumbo wandered near the destination where holidaymakers usually go to see mountain views and eat local dishes when it found the bag hanging on a parked motorbike in Nakhon Ratchasima.
Footage shows the animal throwing the bag onto its back to break it open. It stepped on the backpack and used its trunk to put some objects into its mouth.
However, the elephant was seemingly frustrated when it turned out that the clothes were not edible and made a mess, throwing the bag and its contents all over.
It also searched through the recycling bins nearby, but only empty plastic bottles were inside the cages.
Jetana Sukhanek said: 'The elephant picked up the luggage that a tourist accidentally left on a motorbike and rummaged through it.'
The elephant eventually left on the property with park rangers on standby.
Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.
