SOUNDBITE (English): SUN LEI, Xinhua correspondent
"This is Indonesia's new capital city Nusantara, located in East Kalimantan province. As you can see, the city is under construction right now as the Indonesian government decided to move its capital from the sinking Jakarta to here in 2019. The construction started in 2020 and President Joko Widodo said Nusantara has received 3.5 billion U.S. dollars in private investments. Indonesia wants to build Nusantara into a green and smart city as the nation targets to achieve net zero emissions by 2060. And for Nusantara, the target is even more ambitious - (to achieve net zero emission) by 2045. That's why China-made autonomous rail transit or ART is being deployed here. The Indonesian government held its very first plenary cabinet meeting here on Monday and the upcoming Independence Day celebration will be held in Nusantara on Saturday."
Indonesia celebrates its Independence Day on Aug. 17 annually.
This year's Independence Day celebrations in Nusantara will be presided over by President Joko Widodo with President-elect Prabowo Subianto in attendance.
