STORYLINE:

Since the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity was launched in 2015, Singapore has topped the foreign investment country in Chongqing.

The project covers key areas including financial services, the aviation industry, transportation and logistics, as well as information and communication.

"Since the implementation of the project, commercial and government cooperation programs worth 25.95 billion U.S. dollars have been inked. A total of 262 cross-border financing programs worth about 20.91 billion dollars have also been signed under the project. The number of Singapore-funded enterprises in Chongqing has increased to 151, bringing in a total investment of 1.63 billion dollars. Singapore has topped the foreign investment country in Chongqing, with bilateral trade amounting to 72 billion yuan (10.07 billion dollars). The project has also effectively improved the interconnection between the western region of China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)."

The project is the third intergovernmental cooperation project between China and Singapore following the Suzhou Industrial Park in east China and the Tianjin Eco-city in north China.
