Four injured when Kuwaiti tourist crashes into their motorcycle
Four locals were severely injured when a Kuwaiti tourist crashed head-on into another motorcycle in Thailand.
The Kuwaiti tourist, identified only as Abdalaziz, 19, reportedly drove on the wrong lane and smashed into a two-wheeler carrying four Thai people in Pattaya on August 6.
Police Captain Sombat Kaewmulmuk of the Pattaya City Police Station said officers were notified of the crash at 5:46 am.
Medics arrived at the scene, where two motorcycles lay wrecked on the pavement. Abdalaziz was sprawled on the street, his blood pooling on the ground.
All of the injured individuals were given first aid before being rushed to the hospital.
One of the Thai passengers, Pranee, 27, said: 'We were travelling from South Pattaya to Central Pattaya. We turned on the blinker to make a turn into the alley when two foreigners on a motorcycle, riding in the opposite lane, crashed into us directly.'
She claimed Abdalaziz had been riding at high speed against the flow of traffic.
Police Captain Sombat said: 'Police have inspected the scene and taken photos as evidence. We will check security cameras to determine the cause of the accident.'
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
