Wednesday 14 August 2024 - A female green turtle was found dead stranded in the Teluk Buo Beach area, Padang City, West Sumatra, Indonesia, this Wednesday morning.

According to local information, the size of this turtle, which is a rare and legally protected animal, is very large, with a body length of 70 centimeters and a body width of 50 centimeters.

The turtle is estimated to be more than 40 years old. In the Teluk Buo Beach area, it is also reported that dead turtles are often found stranded. In the last four years, three turtles were found dead on this beach.

Until now, no one has been able to provide an explanation regarding the cause of the turtle's death.

However, local people suspect that the cause of the turtle's death was the activity of large ships near the Buo Bay area.

Apart from that, another suspicion is that the turtle had just come out of the operational water suction pipe of the Steam Power Plant (PLTU) which is close to the Teluk Buo Beach area.

A local resident who is also a resident admitted that he often sees turtles swimming in this sea area.

It is very unfortunate that this turtle, which is still relatively young, was found stranded dead in a terrible condition.
