Outrage as Chinese sanitation workers bury trash in sand at popular tourist spot
An outrage erupted as sanitation workers were caught burying rubbish in the sand at a popular tourist spot in southern China.
The shocking video was filmed in Putian City in Fujian Province on August 5.
Several workers, clad in uniforms bearing the logo of the "Environment Group", were caught on camera digging pits on the beach and burying rubbish in the sand.
The blatant disregard for environmental protection in such a renowned tourist spot quickly drew heavy criticism from the public, raising concerns over the management of the area.
In response to the uproar, the Meizhou Island National Tourism Resort’s Ecological Environment Bureau immediately dispatched personnel to the scene. They uncovered the buried rubbish and conducted a thorough inspection of all the island's beaches to ensure no other areas were similarly affected.
By the morning of 6 August, relevant authorities had summoned the implicated company for a serious discussion, condemning their actions and taking decisive measures. The sanitation workers involved in the incident were promptly dismissed, and the head of the island's Marine Sanitation Team was also removed from their position.
