A kind youngster rescued a kitten from a dirty canal with his neighbours and rehabilitated it at home.

The lad heard the ginger kitten crying at the back of his home and went to check on it before seeing the moggy stranded moving back and forth along the ledge in Bangkok, Thailand, on August 10.

Footage shows him trying to scoop up the feline with a dust pan which he tied to a stick to make longer.

The scared cat would not go near the DIY rescue tool, so the boy, Nong Fers, volunteered to hop into the smelly wastewater to retrieve the stray safely.

His mum, Nalonphan Phonpenthrap, said: 'One night, my son heard a kitten crying behind the house but couldn't find it. The following day, he still heard the crying and went out to search again but had no luck.

'Around noon, while sweeping the house, he looked behind the house once more and finally found the kitten. He immediately asked me for help.'

The mother and son took the kitten home to clean and feed. It was cold so the boy made a basket with a warm yellow lamp to help it calm down.

The kitten was saved without injuries and now lives with the family.
