Iran: Hamas representative to Iran recalls details of Ismail Haniyeh's death
Tehran, Iran - August 14, 2024
Khaled Qaddoumi, Hamas representative to Iran, on Wednesday recounted the tragic details of July 31 when Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed.
The assassination occurred in the Iranian capital of Tehran, and Haniyeh and his bodyguard were both killed when their residence was hit.
During an exclusive interview with Phoenix TV headquartered in Hong Kong, Qaddoumi recalled Haniyeh's final words and actions before the attack.
Qaddoumi described witnessing the aftermath of the attack on the residence where Haniyeh was killed, noting that the damage and destruction indicated the attack came from outside the building rather than an internal explosion.

"He [Haniyeh] was talking about the news of the demise of [Hezbollah's top military commander] Fouad Shokor, and southern Lebanon was on TV, and we were just discussing how the Israeli crimes are continuous. And he was also happy about his meetings in the parliament, how the [Iranian] president [Masoud Pezeshkian] was very happy to meet with him, how the delegates from different countries, they were around him, even inside the dinner. And yes, and then he went to sleep.";

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Khaled Qaddoumi, Hamas representative to Iran (partially overlaid with shot 8):
"Around about 1:37, I am precise because friends were also telling me about the time when I asked them that. And then also in my room, I felt that something has attacked the building. So I was thinking it's an earthquake maybe or maybe thunder or something like that. But it was much more than thunder, then I wanted to go outside my room, my suite. So, I found that the washroom of my suite had also been destroyed and the second floor. So, when I came back it was smoke everywhere.";

"So I wasn't digesting the news because I was between sleep and arousing, and you know that. So we came outside, 15 minutes later, I requested the host to check the dead bodies. I went upstairs to the fourth floor, entered the room and I saw the dead body was over there. The walls, windows, everything was destroyed. And my direct observation on that night, the room style and how it had been destroyed, the walls were destroyed introvert. So to the inner side, nothing had fallen outside the building. So that told me through the first observation that there was nothing like the explosion from inside in the room.";
