Police and firefighters rescued five trapped people as a van dangled on a cliff edge near a reservoir in southern China.

The dramatic video was filmed in Yichun City in Jiangxi Province on August 5.

The terrifying incident unfolded when a van, packed with friends out for a scenic drive, suddenly veered off the road, plummeting nearly 5 metres down the rugged terrain before coming to a halt—perilously close to the reservoir’s edge.

The vehicle was left hanging, supported by nothing more than a couple of tree branches, with the water’s surface barely a metre below.

The driver managed to free himself from the wreckage and called for help, but four others—three women and one man—remained trapped inside the van, with one misstep potentially sending them all over the edge.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with officers from the Mingyue Mountain Police Division arriving first. They found the van perched on the brink of disaster, its passengers clinging to life inside. The officers wasted no time, smashing windows to reach the terrified occupants. Working alongside firefighters and traffic police, they began the painstaking task of pulling the passengers to safety.

One female passenger, paralysed with fear and exhaustion, found herself unable to climb out of the vehicle. In a dramatic moment of heroism, a firefighter used his own body as a human ladder, supporting her as she scrambled to safety.

But the rescue was far from over. A woman in the back seat had lost consciousness, adding to the urgency of the situation. Firefighters swiftly brought in a rescue ladder and stretcher, carefully extracting her from the van and securing her with safety ropes before hauling her up the steep embankment.

Thanks to the quick and coordinated efforts of the police, firefighters, and other emergency responders, all five individuals were brought to safety.

The incident, though harrowing, ended without further injury, leaving those involved grateful to be alive.
