This is the moment a magnitude 6.1 earthquake rattled a lake in Taiwan.

CCTV footage shows the tremor creating ripples on the surface of Liyu Lake in Hualien County on August 16.

The United States Geological Survey said the magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck at 7:35 am local time at a depth of 15 kilometres, some 30 kilometres southeast of Hualien.

The National Fire Agency reported no damages as of 8 am local time.

Taiwan lies inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
