Cape Canaveral, United States - August 15, 2024

SpaceX achieved another milestone on August 15, with the successful launch of two advanced Earth-imaging satellites as part of the WorldView Legion constellation for Maxar Technologies.

The Falcon 9 rocket carrying the WorldView Legion 3 and 4 satellites lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 9:00 a.m. EDT (1300 GMT). Following liftoff, the first stage of the Falcon 9 safely returned and landed near the launch site approximately eight minutes later. SpaceX confirmed the deployment of the first satellite about 50 minutes after launch via its livestream platform.

The WorldView Legion constellation, once complete with six satellites, will significantly enhance Maxar Intelligence's capacity to capture high-resolution, multispectral imagery with a resolution as fine as 30 centimeters (12 inches). This capability will enable frequent monitoring of rapidly changing areas on Earth, providing critical data from sunrise to sunset.

Today's launch marks SpaceX's dedication to expanding its satellite network, which includes ongoing efforts to bolster its Starlink megaconstellation. With nearly 80 missions launched in 2024, SpaceX continues to lead in advancing space-based technologies for both commercial and scientific applications.
