Kenya: Wildebeest migration draws scores of tourists to Kenya's Maasai Mara
Kenya - August 14, 2024
Kenya's Maasai Mara Game Reserve is teeming with life as scores of tourists are converging to witness the annual spectacle of wildebeest migration.
The great wildebeest migration over the Mara River, dubbed the "eighth wonder of the world," culminates in their spectacular jump to cross the crocodile-ridden water.
Interspersed among the wildebeest were large numbers of zebras and even hippos.
After the wildebeests crossed the river, they filled the air with the grunts and calls, seemingly celebrating their smooth journey.
Wildebeests begin to migrate in troops from early July when Tanzania's northern Serengeti ecosystem gets dry, to enjoy the plenty water and pasture in the neighboring Maasai Mara, usually wet and humid during the same period.
This annual event peaks in August before it settles in October when the animals return to Serengeti.
Kenya's rich wildlife resource is one of the key economic pillars of the country. The Maasai Mara, as one of the key tourist destinations in the country, presents plenty of opportunities for the guests to enjoy its lush vegetation, idyllic setting and presence of iconic land mammals like elephants and rhinos.
