STORYLINE:

Northeast China's Liaoning Province, located in the country's former heavy industry heartland, is working to achieve high-quality and green development.

In Dongtaizi Village, Chaoyang County of Chaoyang City, locals transformed once barren mountain land by setting up photovoltaic panels.

In 2019, China Power Shenyang Energy Investment Co. Ltd. launched a 500 MW photovoltaic project across 10 townships in Chaoyang County.

The project now generates an average of 929 million kWh of electricity annually, saving 278,800 tonnes of standard coal and reducing carbon emissions by 730,000 tonnes.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): SONG DIANXIN, Party secretary of Dongtaizi Village
"Since the completion of the photovoltaic project, by leasing out the barren mountain land, villagers get a steady income, which also increases the collective income of the village."

Covering nearly 20,000 square kilometers, Chaoyang City is endowed with abundant wind and solar resources as its landscape is predominantly characterized by mountains and hills.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): MA YUMIN, Director of Development and Reform Commission of Chaoyang City
"Chaoyang City's wind and photovoltaic power installed capacity is expected to reach 11 million kilowatts by 2025, and 25 million kilowatts by 2030."
