STORYLINE:

The summer fishing moratorium ended on Friday in the South China Sea.

About 1,100 fishing boats sailed off from Fangchenggang, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

China has imposed the annual fishing ban in the South China Sea since 1999, as part of the country's efforts to promote sustainable marine fishery development and improve marine ecology.

This year's ban started on May 1.
