Man disgruntled with state of town's roads fills potholes - with flowers
A decorator and landscaper fed up with the pothole-riddled roads in his town has
taken to the streets to fill them - with flowers.
Harry Smith-Haggett, 22, found himself particularly perturbed by the potholes plaguing his town of Horsham in West Sussex.
So Harry decided to take matters into his own hands and fill the potholes, but with a twist.
He planted little pots of flowers into the existing potholes creating what he has dubbed as "pretty potholes."
Harry, founder of the decorating and landscaping firm HSH Services, said: "The road standards around me had been winding me up for quite some time."
"I thought if I did something it might help the council get a shift on."
Harry has made four pretty potholes so far - all of which Horsham District Council have since tarmacked over.
Harry said: "It might just be a coincidence but all the planted ones have been tarmacked already so it might actually be working."
Harry buys the little flower plants from Homebase out of his own pocket and even made custom pink high-vis jackets with
"pretty pot holes" written in the back. "
Harry said: "I don't mind paying for it myself because it has bothered me so much."
"I'm planning to do some more whenever I get some more quiet days at work."
"I had a couple people commenting about me not wearing a high-vis jacket when I'm working in the evening out on the roads."
"So I ended up making some bright neon pink ones that say 'pretty pot holes" on them."
"I'll be wearing mine to every installation from now on I think!"
