UK: Terrifying Video Shows Toddler on Track as Train Approaches
Prestatyn, United Kingdom - August 01, 2024
Network Rail is issuing a stark reminder to the public about the dangers of level crossings following a concerning incident captured on CCTV at Sandy Lane level crossing earlier this month.
In the footage shared by Network Rail, a toddler is seen wandering onto the crossing alone, followed closely by an adult. As an approaching train sounds its horn to warn them, the adult hastens to get the child safely across the tracks.
Bethan Lloyd, Network Rail's route level crossing manager for North Wales, emphasized the critical importance of vigilance and caution when using crossings: "This shocking footage underlines the importance of taking care and staying alert when using a crossing. We urge all users to adhere to safety instructions, check both directions for approaching trains, and never attempt to cross if a train is approaching."
Lloyd highlighted the vigilance of the train driver in averting a potential disaster and stressed the severe risks associated with improper use of crossings.
The Sandy Lane level crossing has reported 19 misuse incidents in the past two years, including four categorized as near misses. Signs are prominently displayed on both approaches, instructing users to stop, look, and listen for oncoming trains, as trains can reach speeds of up to 75mph at this location.
