United States: Border Patrol K-9 Alerts DPS to Seven Illegal Immigrants in Maverick County Camper
Maverick County, TX, USA - August 11, 2024
A routine traffic stop by a DPS Trooper on US-57 in Maverick County this week led to the discovery of seven illegal immigrants concealed inside a Chevy Silverado with a camper.
The driver, identified as Pedro Montes of Houston, initially refused consent to search the vehicle and camper. Subsequently, the Trooper called for assistance from a Border Patrol K-9 unit. The K-9 quickly alerted law enforcement to the presence of individuals hidden within the camper.
Upon further inspection, it was revealed that all seven individuals were Mexican nationals unlawfully present in the United States. Montes was promptly taken into custody and is facing charges of smuggling persons, compounded by the discovery of a handgun inside his vehicle.
