USA: Five Defendants Charged in Connection with Matthew Perry's Fatal Drug Overdose
Los Angeles, United States - August 15, 2024
August 15th, authorities announced significant developments in the investigation into the tragic death of actor Matthew Perry, revealing charges against five individuals, including two doctors, implicated in the distribution of ketamine leading to Perry's fatal overdose in October 2023.
The arrests include:
Jasveen Sangha, 41, known as "The Ketamine Queen," from North Hollywood.
Dr. Salvador Plasencia, 42, also known as "Dr. P," from Santa Monica.
Both Sangha and Plasencia face charges of conspiracy to distribute ketamine. Sangha additionally faces charges of maintaining a drug-involved premises, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and ketamine, and multiple counts of ketamine distribution. The indictment alleges that Sangha's distribution of ketamine directly caused Perry's death.
The investigation revealed a complex network involving Sangha, who allegedly distributed drugs from her North Hollywood stash house since at least 2019, despite knowledge of the dangers. Erik Fleming, 54, of Hawthorne, pleaded guilty earlier this month to conspiracy to distribute ketamine and distribution resulting in death. Kenneth Iwamasa, 59, of Toluca Lake, also pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death.
Dr. Mark Chavez, 54, of San Diego, has agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine after allegedly obtaining ketamine from Plasencia and falsifying records related to Perry's case.
Authorities emphasized that these arrests underscore their commitment to holding accountable those who exploit others for profit, especially in cases involving lethal substances. The Los Angeles Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, and United States Postal Inspection Service collaborated extensively on this investigation.
The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
