A group of inmates participated in a unique race, crawling inside cardboard tubes, at a prison in Indonesia.

The head of Suliki Class III Penitentiary, Kamesworo, said the race was held to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's independence on August 17, 2024.

"The inmates were excited to watch and participate in the race. Besides instilling sportsmanship, it also serves as entertainment in the prison," Kamesworo added.

In addition to the tube race, inmate representatives from each housing block also participated in other competitions such as tug-of-war, laughter-holding contest, sepak takraw, and more.

The competition took place over two days, with winners receiving special prizes sponsored by the Regent of Limapuluh Kota Regency.

Footage filmed at Suliki Class III Penitentiary, Limapuluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province, on August 14 and 15, 2024.
