Bull hits two people during Jallikattu festival in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu
On July 26, 2024, during a Jallikattu festival in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, India, an agitated bull, which had been released as part of the traditional event, struck two people as it ran through the crowd. Jallikattu, a centuries-old tradition associated with the Pongal festival, involves participants attempting to tame a bull by grabbing its hump or bringing it to a stop. Despite being banned by the Supreme Court of India in 2014 due to animal welfare concerns, the event's ban was lifted in 2017 following protests, with new regulations aimed at improving safety for both participants and animals.
