The summer of 2023 was devastating for Nicola, leaving her family homeless for 10 months. Now that she’s getting back on her feet, she has bravely shared her heartbreaking story with WooGlobe.

"My mum invited us to dinner in the evening," Nicola explained. "I had a feeling not to go, but my sister came to get us. I assumed my 17-year-old son was asleep, so I didn’t want to wake him. Forty minutes later, I received a Ring Doorbell notification of my neighbor knocking on the door.

"I thought my dog had gotten out, so I drove over, and what I saw was my house fully engulfed in flames."

Nicola was overwhelmed with horror as she realized her home, where she lived with her three children, three dogs, and a cat, was burning.

"The world went silent around me; my ears were ringing," she said. "In that moment, all I cared about was my son and the animals. Everything else was a blur of heartbreak and terror."

Nicola added that her neighbors were incredibly supportive throughout the ordeal, and everyone was safely rescued except for the cat, which was never found.
