Huge landslide crushes hydroelectric power station in India
This is the dramatic moment a massive landslide buried a hydroelectric power station in India.
The landslip destroyed the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation's (NHPC) 510 MW Teesta Stage 5 dam's power facility in Balutar, Sikkim, on Tuesday morning.
Officials said there had been frequent small landslides occurring on the hill adjacent to the power plant in recent weeks due to heavy rain.
No casualties were reported, as the power plant had been evacuated a few days prior due to the ongoing landslides.
The Teesta Stage 5 dam had been rendered defunct after the October 2023 Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF), which caused devastating flash floods across Sikkim.
