Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, China - August 19, 2024

In a heartwarming rescue operation in the Aba Prefecture of Sichuan Province, a wild musk deer, a second-class protected animal in China, was saved from a perilous situation thanks to the empathetic efforts of local firefighters. The incident unfolded when residents reported a distressed animal trapped in a ditch, prompting an immediate response from Aba Fire.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found the musk deer, looking helpless at the bottom of the ditch. The animal, initially frightened, attempted to flee as the rescue team approached. However, the situation called for a different kind of rescue strategy—communication through eye contact.

The firefighters, known locally as "Blue Friends," employed a gentle approach, using eye contact to convey trust and safety. After a series of what could be described as an eye-to-eye conversation, the musk deer seemed to understand that help was at hand. This moment of connection allowed the firefighters to safely secure the animal without causing it further distress.

The rescue operation was a success, with the musk deer being carefully extracted from the ditch and later handed over to the forestry department for further care and release back into the wild. The interaction between the firefighters and the deer became a symbol of the delicate balance between human intervention and wildlife conservation.
