This is the terrifying moment a resident discovered a huge cobra resting inside his washing machine in India.

The 6ft serpent was found inside the clothes washer, prompting homeowner Shambhudayal to call a snake-catcher team in Kota, Rajasthan, on August 20.

Shambhudayal, a dry cleaner in the city, said he had gone to load the washing machine with clothes when he made the startling discovery.

Upon opening the lid, the reptile's hood spread in a threatening display.

Local snake catcher Govind Sharma arrived promptly and safely rescued the cobra, later releasing it into the Ladpura jungle.

Officials from the Forest Department have warned that the rainy season is causing snakes to emerge from their hiding spots, urging residents to be cautious.

Cobras are commonly found in India and are known for their distinctive hood, potential danger, and venomous bite.
