Chinese child climbs utility pole to evade scolding
A Chinese child climbed a utility pole to evade scolding by his mother.
The terrified boy clung high to the concrete post, crying as his upset parent attempted to reprimand him on a busy street in Sichuan, China, on August 18.
Footage shows the woman holding a long stick to scare her son. Despite their attempts to coax him down, it only heightened his emotions, causing him to clamber even higher.
The filmer said: 'I was intrigued because I could hear the boy crying so loudly. I was also impressed because he managed to climb that high.'
In many Asian countries, some parents traditionally reprimand their children by spanking, either by hand or with a stick, as a means of discipline. This practice has been common in the majority of households. However, it has been slowly declining in recent years due to changing views on parenting and child welfare.
