On August 19, 2024, a video published online revealed beaches in Anapa, Krasnodar Krai, Russia, covered in thick green algae scum. The algae had accumulated significantly, forcing beachgoers to sit in the algae-filled water. Outraged tourists are demanding refunds from tour operators, citing the sea's unusual green color and poor hotel service. With vacation costs soaring to 200,000 rubles per week for a family, travelers are frustrated by the lack of compensation options. Although the sea's algae issue is a recurring problem in the area, tourists are advised that the tour operator is not required to disclose this information. Experts suggest that suing the Anapa mayor's office may be a more viable route for seeking compensation.
