Daring dog plunges into sea after slipping off collapsing dunes in Cornwall

Buy video

An excited dog slips and slides on an unstable sand cliff and into the sea. Very high tide conditions due to a Spring Tide combined with a sea state whipped up by the remains of Hurricane Ernesto lashed the UK from across the Atlantic Ocean. The impressive Sand dune system at Crantock is carved by the encroaching waves and vertical sand cliffs are created before collapsing unpredictably. The dog is engulfed by the waves but manages to regain a footing and launches itself back up the treacherous sliding sand, luckily succeeding to make it back to the family. Crantock Surf Life Saving Club had earlier posted warnings about the developing precarious nature of this constantly evolving coastline. The National Trust which owns this particular coastal location has formulated that the best and perhaps only possible plan for the future is to let nature reclaim this area as sea levels rise.
