A bus crashed into a river in Nepal, leaving 14 dead and 16 injured on Friday.

The Indian passenger bus, reportedly carrying around 40 people, plunged into the Marsyangdi River in Tanahun district while traveling from Pokhara to Kathmandu.

Armed Police Force spokesman Shailendra Thapa said that rescuers pulled 16 individuals from the rain-swollen waters of the Marsyangdi river in the Tanahun district, about 73 miles (118km) from the capital, with several others still missing.

Police and army teams used metal ladders and ropes to reach the river and retrieve the injured and deceased.

This incident follows a similar tragedy in July when two passenger buses were swept into the Trishuli River in central Nepal by a landslip.
