Chinese tourists left stranded on mountaintop after cable car malfunction due to high temperatures
A cable car malfunction at a scenic area left dozens of tourists stranded at a mountaintop in southern China.
The video was filmed in Zhangjiajie City in Hunan Province on August 22.
The incident occurred due to a technical failure caused by high temperatures, which affected the cable car’s components.
Following the breakdown, the scenic area’s management quickly activated an emergency response plan. Staff provided the stranded visitors with refreshments, including cold drinks and snacks, to ensure their comfort and safety. A specialised repair team was swiftly dispatched to address the issue.
By around 6:00 p.m., the malfunction was resolved, allowing all stranded tourists to safely descend the mountain without further incident. The scenic area has since issued an apology and assured the public that they will enhance maintenance efforts to prevent future occurrences.
The Huangshizhai cable car has reportedly resumed normal operations, and visitors can now use it without issue.
