Demonstration of Thousands of Students on Regional Head Election Law in Lampung Indonesia is Chaotic
Thousands of students from various regions in Indonesia held demonstrations after the plan of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia to ratify the revision of the Regional Head Election Law in 2024, from Thursday to Friday.
In Lampung Province, the action, which was held on Friday (August 23, 2024), was held in the courtyard of the Lampung Provincial House of Representatives office building with the participation of thousands of students from a number of universities.
In their speeches, the masses said that this demonstration was carried out because the draft revision of the 2024 Regional Head Election Law was considered not in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Court regarding the requirements for nominating regional heads.
During the demonstration, thousands of people were involved in pushing and shoving with police officers to get into the office building of the Lampung Provincial House of Representatives. Because they could not enter, the masses threw stones at the officers and were responded to by carrying out a forced dispersal that caused chaos.
