People were stuck 72ft in the air today, after this rollercoaster came to an unplanned stop.

The incident happened at around 5pm at Southend’s Adventure Island, with some of the riders stuck laying on their backs for half an hour.

Engineers at the theme park sprung into well-rehearsed emergency plans. They used a platform lift to evacuate the passengers from the rollercoaster car.

The popular ride is known as a Euro-Fighter model, manufactured by Gerstlauer.

The lift tower transports passengers up to the top lying on their backs, before they experience a drop of more than 90° and then the loop.
