STORYLINE:

The second Hainan Free Trade Port International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum and Deep-Sea Technology Innovation Conference is being held from Friday to Sunday in Sanya City, south China.

The event sees the participation of representatives from about 270 organizations and institutions from 21 countries and regions.

Attendees have praised the development of China's deep-sea technology.

"I think China is one of the leading nations in marine research, and is really a big part of the global marine research player. So, I think China is playing a major role in providing this scientific knowledge and in developing new innovative technologies on marine science.
For example, exploitation of marine resources, like fossil resources, oil, gas, and also mineral resources. And then, of course, the biological resources. This is one point.
The second point, I would say it's also very important. China plays a big role in the protection of the environment."

"It is my first time in China. And I was observing Chinese technology from my country's view. And when I came here, it was just yesterday, I saw how you are strong on deep-diving technology. And I'm observing, and I'm listening to speeches on deep-diving technology, especially ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) and autonomous underwater vehicles. China is very good on the subject. And, definitely, at least we can use this technology in the Mediterranean, too."
