The China-Vietnam freight train service has boosted the rapid movement of cargo between the two countries and further into Southeast Asia.

In the first seven months of 2024, a total of 6,850 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers of goods were shipped via China-Vietnam freight trains departing from south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, marking a 16-fold increase year on year.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): HUANG WENHAN, Staff member of logistics center, China Railway Nanning Group Co., Ltd.
"In response to the rising transportation demand of China-Vietnam freight trains, we have contacted customers in advance to know their transportation plans, optimized the cargo loading plan according to their needs, and offered convenient access to cross-border cargo."

The China-Vietnam freight train service, launched at the end of November 2017, has seen the number of trains rise from fewer than five per month to three trains per week.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): ZHU SHIQIANG, Business manager at Sinotrans Guangxi Co., Ltd.
"Initially, we exported PVC to Vietnam by sea, but now we use the China-Vietnam freight train due to its punctual and convenient service, saving us three to five days of transportation time. This transport efficiency helps us better explore the ASEAN market."

Nowadays, the freight train service has become a preferable choice for cross-border fruit trading companies.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): CHEN SHUANGLONG, Manager of a cross-border trading company
"The rail freight volume is large. The customs clearance is very convenient, which could be completed within 3 hours. For the fruits with high freshness requirements, the rail transportation is preferable."
