This is the moment a yelling American man kicks and punches a passenger plane door after missing boarding for his flight from Colombia.

The footage, filmed by a passenger on the plane at El Dorado International Airport, in the country's capital Bogota, shows them knocking on the plane door and kicking it as a member of staff behind him calls for help on a walkie-talkie.

The man, carrying his bags, with his boarding pass and passport in one hand, continues to bang on the plane door and kick it violently.

He can be heard yelling from outside the aircraft, demanding to be let on board.

One of the passengers can be heard saying in Spanish that the man is 'crazy'.

The man then drops down on his knees and begs to be let on board but any goodwill that gets him with passengers is quickly squandered as he briefly activates a lever controlling the boarding bridge.

Local media said that the man was a US citizen who was late to board Latamflight 4090 for Cartagena, also in Colombia, and was eventually detained when he reportedly assaulted an officer.

Daniel Gallo, the head of the Colombian Air Workers Association, told local media: 'This disruptive passenger initially attacked ground staff after being informed that the flight had already closed and he had arrived late.

'He tried to force his way onto the boarding bridge and, failing to do so, hit the main door and windows of the aircraft.'

After he assaulted the officer, the passenger was deported from Colombia, according to local media reports.
