An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 shook the Gunungkidul Regency area, Special Region of Yogyakarta, tonight.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency released an earthquake incident that hit the Gunung Kidul district area, Yogyakarta Special Region Province, Monday, August 26, 2024.

The 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred at around 19.57 local time.

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency recorded that the earthquake occurred at the coordinates of 8.85 South Latitude and 110.24 East Longitude.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 103 kilometers southwest of Gunungkidul. With a depth (equake) of 10 kilo meters under the sea.

This 5.8 magnitude earthquake felt quite strong. The earthquake was also felt by residents in the Jogjakarta City area. Residents in Jogja City feel the vibration.
