A Chinese envoy on Thursday urged Israel to immediately stop all military operations in the war-ravaged Gaza Strip, pledging China's support to the U.N. Security Council in taking necessary actions to achieve a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave.

Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the U.N., made the statement at a meeting held by the Security Council on the Middle East and Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

The envoy said that more than two months have passed since the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2735, yet the Israeli military operations in Gaza have continued, resulting in tragic losses of lives every day. Meanwhile, Israel has undertaken a series of provocative and perilous actions, which have heightened the conflict spillover risks, exacerbating the already precarious situation in the Middle East.

He said that blindly pursuing a "complete victory" in Gaza by military means will only lead to further casualties among innocent civilians. This approach will not create conditions for the rescue of detained people, nor will it bring about peace and stability for Israel and the rest of the region.

Fu reiterated that sustainable security can only be achieved by upholding the principle of common security, and that regional peace must be built through responsible collaboration of all parties involved. Realizing the establishment of an independent state of Palestine and implementing the two-state solution are the only viable political path to resolving the conflict.
