This is the moment farmers chased away a 12ft (3.7 metre) crocodile found in a field.

The villagers spotted the reptile resting on the mud, which sparked fear and alarm in the community in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, India, on August 25.

Upon sighting the croc, they contacted the forest department, who took four hours to capture the animal.

Footage shows men using long wooden sticks to shoo the predator away. The beast then crawled towards the water and swam away into the Chandraprabha River.

While sightings of crocodiles in the village's residential areas are common, the presence of such a large reptile caused significant disturbance among the locals during the rainy season.
