Residents walked along a lifeline rope to flee a flash flood that submerged homes in Thailand.

Footage shows the locals holding onto the long rope installed across the street so they could cross the raging deluge in Nan province on August 21.

Officials said flash floods caused by heavy monsoon rains in Thailand have killed 22 people and injured 19 in recent days.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation confirmed that around 30,000 households have been affected in 13 provinces across the north and south over the past 10 days.

During a visit to the northern region of Nan over the weekend, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra distributed food supplies to residents.

The Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) forecast widespread thundershowers and isolated heavy rain in the region that day.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season, which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
