A mountain landslide blocked a road leading to a school and stranded teachers as northern Thailand experienced heavy rains.

Footage shows the rocks, soil, and mud cascading downhill with deluge in Chiang Rai province on August 22.

The debris reached the path outside Banpot Wittaya School, and due to the slippery road, instructors could not safely travel home.

A teacher said: ‘The school entrance was blocked by a landslide with electric poles toppled over on the road.'

Aside from the blocked roads, the teacher added soil under the dorms were weakened by the floods and the building was damaged.

The flash flood came after heavy rains battered the province on and off for three weeks.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are at the start of their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms. The rudimentary infrastructure often struggles with the deluge, leading to widespread flash floods.
