Mass demonstrations against proposed changes to Indonesia's election laws have erupted in cities across the country, including remote areas.

In Bukittinggi, West Sumatra Province, protesters gathered outside the local parliament building, dismantling and burning the office fence. They also removed and burned a banner celebrating Indonesia's Independence Day.

Demonstrators demanded that the Indonesian parliament not only cancel but also withdraw their efforts to ratify the proposed changes.

According to Newsflare journalist Wahyu Lelo, protesters at the scene carried banners accusing the President of attempting to avoid court decisions and establish a political family dynasty.

Amid growing protests, Indonesia's parliament has backed down from plans to ratify the election law changes.

Footage filmed on Monday (August 26, 2024).
