Out-of-control truck causes pile-up crash beside road construction
This is the moment cars were shoved forward in a pile-up crash when a truck behind them lost control.
The vehicles were caught in slow traffic during road construction of one lane on Highway 304 in Prachin Buri, Thailand, on August 25.
However, one of the trucks at the back reportedly lost control and hurtled towards the drivers at the front, causing a pile-up.
Dashcam footage shows the impact, which sent a car bumping into the motorist in front.
Driver Watcharapong Introne said: ‘They said the truck's brake system failed due to lack of air.'
The driver of the out-of-control truck told police he tried to stay in the empty lane but reached road work, so he moved and crashed.
He was fined by police and apologised to the other drivers before he would face further legal action after investigation.
Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.
Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
