STORYLINE:

"I am Champa. I'm from Nyima County of Nagqu City in Xizang Autonomous Region. In 2020, I was honored to join the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC)."

Champa is now a production operator working with CNOOC's Bohai oilfields.

"We are now on a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility."

Champa's hometown is in the plateau grasslands with an average altitude of more than 4,800 meters in China's Xizang. From the plateau grasslands thousands of kilometers away to the sea, Champa went through a challenging adaptation process.

"The first time I went offshore, the altitude difference and the three-day journey had an impact on my body. I missed my family a lot when I first went out to sea. Now, I'm very used to the sea. Returning to the sea is like returning home."

After more than three years of work, Champa has become a qualified offshore oil worker.

"Champa is honest and hardworking. He has made significant progress in the three years of work and has contributed greatly to the safe production of our oilfield."

In addition to his grassland hometown, Champa also loves the sea.

"I feel that the sea is as vast as the grasslands, so I am willing to work offshore."

More than 10% of college students in Xizang take jobs outside the autonomous region every year, according to a white paper issued in 2021.

The region's government work report showed that over 3,600 fresh college graduates were employed outside Xizang in 2023 alone.
