Sikh gunmen in turbans shoot Indian businessman in his home
This is the harrowing moment Sikh gunmen shot an Indian businessman inside his home on Saturday.
Sukhchain Singh, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) living in the United States, was allegedly blasted by the assailants inside his residence in Daburji village, Amritsar, Punjab.
CCTV footage from inside and outside the victim's compound captured two suspects wearing turbans entering his home.
The attackers reportedly fired three shots at Singh's head and neck while his mother and child pleaded for mercy with folded hands.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal said: 'The law and order situation in Punjab has completely deteriorated. Miscreants opened fire this morning after breaking into our NRI brother Sukhchain Singh's home.
'With their hands clasped, the mother and child begged the crooks to save the guy, but they persisted.'
'Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, under your leadership, these kinds of incidents occur on a daily basis. Punjabis' personal dwellings are not safe either.
'For moral reasons, I believe you ought to step down. I pray for Sukhchain Singh, who sustained serious injuries.'
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Harpal Singh said that the police were probing various angles.
He added: 'We are trying to trace the assailants. The victim's first wife committed suicide in 2022. Her family got an FIR registered against the family, but he was held innocent.
'He was getting threats from his former in-laws. We are also taking this case into consideration in the probe. The faces of assailants are clearly visible in the CCTV footage, soon we will trace them.
Officials confirmed that Singh is currently in critical condition at the hospital, where he was promptly admitted following the violent attack.
