SOUNDBITE (Chinese): XIAO HAIZHU, Chief designer of G3 Tongling Yangtze River Road-Rail Bridge
"I feel very excited to witness my design work become a reality. The bridge in mind has finally turned into a bridge in reality. This bridge boasts multiple technical innovations and pioneers several new technologies. Its primary design characteristic lies in the combination of technical features from both cable-stayed bridges and suspension bridges, resulting in a structure with high stiffness and strong spanning capability. The closure of the bridge represents a pivotal step. Upon its closure, the safety of the entire structure will be strengthened, and the subsequent construction tasks will gradually become less and less. The bridge is expected to open traffic before July of the next year."
