A driver was left stuck in a wreckage when his iPhone's Crash Detection feature called the emergency services - only for the operator to cut the call.

Dashcam footage shows the driver stuck upside down after his car overturned in Atyrau, Kazakhstan, on August 9. He was struggling to get out of the car and groaning while someone tried to help him from outside.

His iPhone asked if he was okay, and after the man did not reply, Apple's iOS feature successfully dialled an ambulance as it had detected the owner had been involved in a serious car collision.

It then informs them that the driver has been in an accident and cannot respond.

The iPhone says: 'The owner of this iPhone has been in a serious car accident. They haven't responded to a request about their status.'

'Accident coordinates: latitude 47'6.822N.'

But the emergency services operator seemed to be unsure of how to handle the called. They then hung up, and the line went dead. Other people assisted the motorist to get out after they rushed to help.

He suffered cuts and bruises in the crash and was taken to the hospital for checks but was not seriously injured.

The incident raised concerns about Apple's iPhone Crash Detection feature.

The safety feature is available on newer iPhone models, starting with the iPhone 14 series, and automatically detects severe car accidents.

If a crash is detected, the iPhone displays an alert and sounds an alarm. If the user does not respond within 10 seconds, the iPhone automatically contacts emergency services and provides them with the device's location.
