Sudan: More than 70 villages have been destroyed and dozens have died after a dam collapsed
Port Sudan, Sudan - August 27, 2024
The collapse of a dam near Port Sudan due to flooding caused by the heavy torrential rains that have hit the African country in the last month amid the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has destroyed around twenty towns, which has resulted in the deaths of dozens of people.
The spokesman for the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, has indicated that 70 villages near the dam have also been affected, as well as 70 schools, while thousands of animals are missing.
