A nine-year-old boy was attacked by a lion in India on Monday night.

The incident occurred after a rowdy crowd provoked the animal in Dhudhvana Village, Khambha Taluka, Amreli District, Gujarat.

Footage shows the big cat becoming agitated as it tried to escape, leading to injuries for Krupal Vinu Chauhan, who reportedly suffered wounds to his thigh and waist.

The attack occurred around 11:30pm when the beast entered the village and killed a cow resting on a porch.

Rajdeepsinh Jhala, Deputy Conservator of Forests in Gir East, said that the incident was not a typical human-wildlife conflict but resulted from the disturbance caused by the crowd.

Krupal was initially treated at Khambha Government Hospital, where he received five stitches on his left thigh, before being transferred to Amreli Civil Hospital. The boy's condition is now reported as stable.

His father, Vinu Chauhan, recounted the incident, saying they were sitting after dinner when the wild animal suddenly appeared on their veranda.

Amreli district, situated within the Greater Gir region, is home to around 150 lions, making it one of the areas with the highest lion population. They are often seen in villages near forests, where they prey on livestock.
