This is the terrifying moment a crocodile clutches a pet dog in its jaws as it roams through a flooded street in India.

Footage shows the massive reptile swimming through floodwaters in a residential area with a street dog clenched in its jaws amidst relentless rain in Vadodara, Gujarat, on August 27.

The crocodile's sighting in the neighbourhood caused panic among locals, who reported that it was not an isolated incident.

Residents said the overflowing Vishwamitri River has allowed numerous crocodiles to invade various areas of Vadodara.

Officials stated that after the Vishwamitri River surpassed its danger threshold on Tuesday morning, around 3,000 residents from low-lying districts in and around Vadodara were evacuated to safer locations.

Since Monday, 15 people have reportedly died due to heavy rainfall across the state. The Gujarat government reported fatalities in several districts including Morbi, Vadodara, Kheda, Bharuch, and Ahmedabad along with two in Gandhinagar and Mahisagar and six in Anand.
