Rescue teams continue to search for a missing shopper swallowed up by a sinkhole in Malaysia.

Vijayaletchumy, 48, from India was walking along alan Masjid India area of Kuala Lumpur when the pavement underneath gave way last Friday morning on August 23.

The operation to find her has continued unsuccessfully as volunteers faced challenges such as obstruction and rising water levels.

Footage shows Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department volunteers equipped with scuba diving gear preparing to descend into the sewage system on August 29.

Fire Department Deputy Director General Datuk Ahmad Izram Osman said: ‘The team detected an obstacle. An object is stuck between the location of clear land and the second sewage tunnel.'

Water and waste had been pumped out with firefight divers and a K9 dog unit assisting in the search.
