Two pensioners were injured when a sinkhole swallowed up their car while travelling along a road in South Korea.

The chasm, which was around 6.5 feet (two meters) deep, emerged in the middle of a concrete path in Seoul on August 29, causing the white vehicle to roll over sideways into the hole.

Footage shows rescuers retrieving the car from the sinkhole. They used a crane to lift it and blocked the lane while assessing safety.

While the car was still inside the hole, firefighters opened the door and extracted the 80-year-old male driver and his 70-year-old passenger.

The woman had to be given CPR on the scene as her heart had stopped beating before they were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the road will be temporarily closed to investigate the cause of the sinkhole.
